आजमगढ़ ( Azamgarh Lok Sabha ) में कभी किसी लहर का प्रभाव नहीं रहा। चाहे वह जनता लहर हो, राम लहर रहा हो या फिर मोदी लहर। हर चुनाव में यहां के वोटरों ने लहर के विपरीत परिणाम दिया है।

1978 में जब देश में कांग्रेस के खिलाफ लहर थी तब उपचुनाव में कांग्रेस की मोहसिना किदवई को जीत मिली। नब्बे के दशक के अंत में जिस वक्त पूरे देश में कांग्रेस के खिलाफ वीपी सिंह अपने पक्ष में लहर बनाने में कामयाब हुए, जनता दल अौर बीजेपी को बड़ी जीत मिली तब भी यहां जनता दल के प्रत्याशी त्रिपुरारी पूजन सिंह को पराजय मिली अौर बसपा के रामकृष्ण यादव जीते। रामलहर में भी भाजपा का प्रत्याशी जीत नहीं दर्ज करा सका। इसी तरह 2014 के चुनाव में इस सीट पर मोदी लहर का असर नहीं दिखा। भाजपा प्रत्याशी रमाकांत यादव सपा के मुलायम सिंह यादव से हार गए।
