HUMONGOUS FEES BEING CHARGED WITHIN A SHORT SPAN OF TIME DURING THE PANDEMIC IN AMITY.

The students of Amity University are being charged with a hefty amount  which is to be paid
by 11.06.2020 for the upcoming semester and this information was given to them through the University
portal AMIZONE on the date 29.05.2020. It is to be pointed that there has been no waiver of any kind
whatsoever and that the students have not been given the option of paying the amount of the fees in
installments. It is to be strongly emphasized that THE NOTICE TO PAY THE FEES IS IN COMPLETE
CONTRAVENTION TO THE UGC GUIDELINES ISSUED ON THE DATE 27.05.2020 WHICH
ADDRESSED ALL THE UNIVERSITIES AND COLLEGES, THE PARAGRAPH OF WHICH HAS
BEEN REPRODUCED BELOW-
“It is, requested, that in view of prevailing extraordinary difficult circumstances,
universities and colleges may consider the matter regarding payment of annual/ semester
fee, tuition fee, examination fee etc. sympathetically and if feasible, may consider offering
alternative payment options to students till the situation returns to normal. If need be, the
Universities and colleges may also consider individual requests from students, received if
any, concerning payment of fee, in a considerate manner, keeping in view, the present
COVID-19 pandemic.”
It is clear from the aforementioned paragraph that the UGC has in fact acknowledged the plight
of the students and that it is a very serious issue which needs to be resolved immediately. It is
highly unfair and unjust for the University to demand such a high amount of fees in such a short
notice during these difficult times DESPITE THE CRISP AND CLEAR UGC
GUIDELINES.

THE STUDENTS OF AMITY UNIVERSITY HAVE THE FOLLOWING DEMANDS-

1. Firstly, the deadline for fee payment needs to be extended as collecting such a huge amount
in such a short span of time is a draconian task.
2. Secondly, they want the option of fee payment to be made in installments.
3. Thirdly, they want the annual 5% increment in fees to be waived off given the COVID-19
situation.
4. Fourthly, they want a portal which addresses individual grievances.
