Avadh Girls’ Post Graduate College, Lucknow organized a Two days National Seminar on the 29th and 30th of March 2018.

 

The Seminar began with the lighting of the lamp and Vandana.

The Principal Dr. Upma Chaturvedi was the Convener and delivered the Welcome Address. The organizing Secretaries of the Seminar were Dr. Amina Hasan, and Dr. Barkha Tandon Bhalla.

The Chief Guest and Keynote Speaker for the Seminar were Mr. Partha Sarthi Sen Sharma (IAS) Commissioner Rural Development Government of Uttar Pradesh who enlightened us with the current Natural Resource Management in Rural Areas and Ms. Leena Johri (IAS) Commissioner and Secretary Board of Revenue Government of Uttar Pradesh was the Guest of Honour and she addressed the audience.

The Seminar was sponsored by the Department of Higher Education, Government of Uttar Pradesh and the theme for the Seminar was “Changing Dimensions of Natural Resources and Sustainable Development.”

The theme was further sub-divided into sub-themes such as:

A Conceptual change in Definition of Natural Resources
B Global and Regional pattern of distribution of Natural Resources
C Social-economic importance of Natural Resources
D Emerging Global conflicts related to Natural Resources
E Depleting Natural Resources and their impact of Ecology / Economy
F Environmental Degradation and its Impact
G Global efforts to conserve Natural Resources
H Natural Resources; its constitutional, legislative and legal status.
I. Conventional and non conventional measures for conservation of Natural Resources.
J. Sustainable development a contemporary issues

The speakers on the panel were eminent Geographers and Geospatial scientists of the country

The first session was chaired by Dr. Aniruddh Uniyal who spoke on the Application of Geospatial Techniques in Natural Resource and Disaster Management.
Professor Mary Tahir from Jamia Millia Islamia New Delhi shared her views on the Micro Analysis of Environmental Up gradation: A Case Study of Delhi and Dr. Venkatesh Dutta presented valuable information on the River Basin Management and the Restoration of the Environment.

The second session post-lunch was chaired by Dr. AN Singh

He presented information on the Reclamation of Soils in Uttar Pradesh, Dr. Anshuman Upadhyay shared his views on climate change and livelihood challenges faced subsequently, Dr. Arvind Chaturvedi presented deep insight into the importance of saving the environment and his take on the tigers and turtles did reveal some interesting facts and Dr. Kashif Imdad gave an interesting presentation on the African Kimberlite.
The occasion was graced by the members of the managing committee of the college, the College alumnai and distinguished guests. Day Two of the Seminar was allotted for paper presentation by faculties, scholars and students who were participating in these two days National Seminar.

A workshop on GIS and Remote Sensing was conducted by Ms. Joyeeta Poddar

The program was conducted by Dr. Barkha Tandon Bhalla and a formal Vote of Thanks was given by Dr. Anima Hasan.
The Program ended with the singing of the National Anthem.
It was a very well attended Seminar and the views discussed and shared in this program could also be used for the future policy making purposes by the Government of India.
