An army officer Lt Umar Fayaz was found killed in Shopian of South Kashmir.
The body of the Lieutenant Ummer Fayaz was found with bullet wounds in Hermain area of the district, police said.
Police said the officer, hailing from neighbouring Kulgam district, had gone to Shopian to attend the marriage function of a relative.
Lieutenant Umar Fayaz was 22 years old and had joined army one year ago.
Ummer Fayaz was from NDA’s 129th course & Delta Squadron. He was part of NDA Hockey Team,volleyball player.
He was commissioned in Dec 2016, in 2 Rajputana Rifles battalion.
Lt Umar Fayaz, who was posted with the RAJRIF unit in Akhnoor, had gone to Shopian to attend a marriage function of his relative.
Lt Umar Fayaz was abducted at around 2200 hr yesterday.

An army official here said they have received an input and are verifying the circumstances in which the officer was found dead.
Army has called the abduction and killing of Lt Umar Fayaz by terrorists as dastardly act and paid tributes to him.
“The Army salutes the brave-heart and stands by the bereaved family in this hour of tragedy and commits to bring the perpetrators of this heinous act of terror to justice” Army spokesperson said.
Last rites of Lieutenant Umar Fayaz will be held today with full military honours in Sursuna village of Kulgam, Kashmir
